Wanindu Hasaranga Becomes 2nd Sri Lankan Bowler To Reach 100 T20I Wickets After Lasith Malinga

Sri Lanka’s newly appointed T20I captain Wanindu Hasaranga has breached the 100-wicket barrier in T20 Internationals (T20Is). Notable, Hasaranga is now the second Sri Lankan bowler, following Lasith Malinga, to reach this milestone in men’s T20Is.

Hasaranga achieved this feat during the second T20I against Afghanistan in Dambulla. Since his T20I debut in 2019, he has emerged as the leading wicket-taker in men’s T20Is.

Notably, Hasaranga achieved the milestone in his 63rd T20I, making him the second-fastest to 100 T20I wickets after Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who accomplished the feat in 53 matches in 2021.

Lasith Malinga, the legendary Sri Lankan pacer, is the only other bowler from the country to have taken more than 100 T20I wickets. Malinga achieved this milestone in his 76th T20I, making Hasaranga’s achievement even more noteworthy.

With figures of 2/19 in the second T20I against Afghanistan, Hasaranga now boasts a tally of 101 wickets in 63 T20Is, maintaining an impressive average of 15.36 and an economy rate of 6.78. Sri Lanka’s victory in the match secured a 2-0 lead in the three-match series against Afghanistan.
