T20 World Cup 2024 to showcase Caribbean flair in the USA, says Tournament director Fawwaz Baksh

Fawwaz Baksh, the tournament director for the T20 World Cup in June, wants a memorable celebration packed with bright Caribbean flavours that will cement cricket’s place in the American sporting landscape.

After dialling down their excitement about the 2023 ODI World Cup, cricket enthusiasts will be ready to witness the T20 World moving to the United States for the first time. The World Cup, which is set to begin on June 1, 2024, will be held across six Caribbean countries along with 16 matches between New York, Dallas and Miami.

The ODI World Cup in India became clear evidence of how big of a fan following the game has within countries that already have a cricketing history. However, cricket’s popularity beyond these countries has always posed a question about its true recognition. Although this changed substantially after it was announced that the game would be part of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Baksh believes that more can be done.

Baksh believes that the tournament will help in introducing the game to countries beyond the limited commonwealth bracket and set up a global recognition for cricket.
