Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel are the latest Royals’ products to serve the national team with distinction and it’s a matter of time before Riyan Parag joins them in the Team India set-up on the basis of his recent impressive show.
“A couple of seasons ago, Yashasvi was just an upcoming player but now he has established himself at the top by scoring tons of runs across all levels of cricket. Shubham is new and talented. I will try to ensure that Shubham also becomes a star like Yashasvi and Dhruv when this IPL season comes to an end. He has the potential to make it big and that’s why we picked him,” said Samson.
Making his debut as an Impact Player, the 29-year-old Shubham did well and remained unbeaten on 8 off six balls and ensured RR reached the target with 27 balls to spare in the company of in-form Riyan Parag.
“We believe Shubham has talent to excel in this format. That was the reason we bought him in the last auction. Our coaches and support staff have worked very hard on his batting in the last few months during the pre-tournament camps at our High-Performance Centre near Nagpur. We have spent a lot of time and energy to improve his batting. We will use him as and when we need him,” said Samson.
Shubham piled up 221 runs in seven innings for Vidarbha at a strike rate of nearly 190 in the last Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy which forced IPL franchises to take notice of his big-hitting prowess. He smashed 58 off just 20 balls as an Impact Player in Vidarbha’s highest-ever successful chase of 213 against Bengal.
