Multan Sultans and Islamabad United will battle for the title when they lock horns in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 final on Monday (March 18) at the National Stadium in Karachi.
While Mohammad Rizwan-led Sultans reached the final with a victory over Peshawar Zalmi in the qualifier, Islamabad United led by Shadab Khan had to get past Quetta Gladiators and then the Peshawar side in the two Eliminators to book their berths for the title clash.
Multan Sultans, who had topped the PSL 2024 points table, rode on Yasir Khan’s fifty and a late cameo from Iftikhar Ahmed (22 off 8) to chase down 146 with 9 balls and 7 wickets to spare after Maroon Cap holder Usama Mir (2 for 16) had helped restrict Babar Azam’s second placed Peshawar Zalmi.
Islamabad United, on the other hand, rode on Martin Guptill’s fifty before Imad Wasim’s magic with the ball to defend 174 against Quetta Gladiators. Shadab-led side then pulled off a 186-run chase inside 19 overs with 5 wickets in hand thanks to fifties from Haider Ali and Wasim.

How many times has Multan Sultans won the PSL title?
Multan Sultans, who made their PSL debut only in the third season in 2018, has won the Pakistan Super League title one time in the 2021 season, beating Peshawar Zalmi by 47 runs in the final. The Sultans have also finished runners up twice in their six previous appearances.
Rizwan’s side lost back-to-back finals in 2022 and 2023 season to Lahore Qalandars. They lost the 2022 title clash by 42 runs before a heartbreaking 1-run loss in the 2023 final. Multan Sultans have also finished in the playoff spots once and the group stage once. The 2024 final is their third successive final appearance.
How many times has Islamabad United won the PSL title?
Islamabad United, one of the founding member of the league in 2016, has won the PSL title twice. They first won the title in the inuagural edition, beating Quetta Gladiators by 6 wickets in the final, and two seasons later in 2018, when they defeated Peshawar Zalmi in the title clash by 3 wickets.
Islamabad United, however, have never managed to reach the final in the remaining six editions with fivev being playoff exits and one a group stage finish. The 2024 final will be their first final appearance since the title win 2018.

Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators have all won the PSL title once in 2021, 2017, 2020 and 2019 respectively. Multan and Peshawar have the joint most final appearances followed by Islamabad, Quetta and Lahore, who have all reached the final three times each so far.
Karachi Kings has only one final appearance and hold a perfect record, having won the title in 2020. Islamabad United also hold a hundred percent record when it comes to finals in PSL.
