Praveen Kumar defends Rohit Sharma’s ‘jo koi bhi garden mein ghoomega’ comment: ‘Some players are not…’

Praveen Kumar has backed Rohit Sharma for his ‘jo koi bhi garden mein ghoomega’ comment during the India vs England Test series, saying the captain needs to be strict as players are not giving importance to playing for the country.

Notably, the 36-year-old India captain’s hilarious comment for his fielders to be alert and not ‘loiter in the garden’ was caught on the stump-mic during the second Test in Visakhapatnam. Rohit had also used a cuss word towards the end of his comment, and the clip soon went viral on social media.

Praveen Kumar explained that a lot of youngsters are not taking international cricket seriously due to the emergence of T20 leagues. like the IPL. He also hailed the exponential rise of Rohit Sharma at an age when “careers of some players” end.

“The careers of some players end at 30, and for others like Rohit, it begins. Rohit has that self-confidence, self-belief. And the way he is captaining; we heard him say ‘jo koi bhi garden mein ghoomega…’ he is absolutely right. Some players are not giving importance to playing for the country. So yeah, he is spot on in scolding them,” Praveen Kumar said on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.

“He has so much confidence right now, the way Rohit is batting – especially in the World Cup – he has shown what he is capable of. He may or may not score a hundred but he wanted to score 80 off 40 balls. It’s rare and amazing at the same time for Indian cricket that a player after 30 is doing all these incredible things. It will change that thinking that players need to be sidelined once they are 32-33,” added Kumar.

Rohit Sharma uploaded an Instagram image with Dhruv Jurel, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan after India defeated England in the Dharamsala Test and completed a 4-1 series series. “Garden me ghoomne wale bande,” he captioned the image.

The right-hand opener will now be seen playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that Rohit Sharma would lead India in the T20 World Cup 2024 which starts from June 1.
