IPL banter moments after RCB win WPL title: Rajasthan Royals’ post goes viral

Rajasthan Royals began the Indian Premier League banter moments after Royal Challengers Bangalore won the Women’s Premier League trophy on Sunday, March 17 in New Delhi.

The former IPL champions took to social media to share a cheeky post, congratulating Smriti Mandhana’s team for ending Royal Challengers Bangalore’s long title wait.

Smriti Mandhana’s RCB defeated Delhi Capitals in the WPL 2024 final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital on Sunday. RCB restricted Delhi to just 113 in 18.3 overs after young Shreyanka Patil’s 4-wicket haul and Sophie Molineux’s sensational over in which she picked up 3 wickets and broke the back of their batting order. RCB rode on a calm and composed Ellyse Perry to get the job done with the bat and lift their maiden title. Captain Smriti Mandhana and fellow opener Sophie Devine gave RCB a strong start before Perry and Richa Ghosh finished things off.

Rajasthan Royals, who won the IPL title in the inaugural edition under late Shane Warne’s captaincy, took a cheeky dig at the RCB men’s team for not having been able to win the title over the last 16 years in the IPL, highlighting how the women’s team did it only in their second year of existence.

Rajasthan Royals shared a popular meme from Jethalal’s character from the popular TV series ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ and it did not go down well with a section of Royal Challengers Bangalore fans.

Quite a few of the fans on social media saw the funny side of the post from Rajasthan Royals, but a few backed RCB to respond to the meme on the field in the upcoming IPL 2024 season, starting March 22.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will open their IPL 2024 campaign on the opening day of the season in Chennai against defending champions Chennai Super Kings.

Despite possessing some of the best batting stars over the years, including the likes of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell, RCB have not been able to win the IPL crown. RCB made the finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016, but finished runners-up on all three occasions.

In fact, Virat Kohli’s record-breaking season in 2016 (973 runs and 4 hundreds) was not enough as RCB lost to SunRisers Hyderabad in the final that year.

Faf du Plessis will lead Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024 as Virat Kohli will return to competitive action with renewed hopes of winning the crown. Kohli was seen celebrating RCB’s WPL triumph on Sunday, joining the women’s team via a video call.
