IPL 2024: Three captaincy candidates that might help SRH end title drought

IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad announced its arrival in India’s premier T20 competition in 2013. With minimal resources in the tank, they maximized their efforts and churned out results in their favor, more often than not – a spirited mentality that rewarded them the fourth place finish.

In the 2016 season, all their hard work bore fruit, when David Warner steered the franchise to its maiden IPL trophy by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. As the years went on, David Warner was stripped of SRH captaincy in 2018 without being given the reason – a development that shocked the IPL fraternity.

Sunrisers’ journey was dealt a painful blow after they lost to CSK in the IPL 2018 final under Kane Williamson’s tutelage. Since then, there was utter chaos in the franchise that saw no signs of moving forward that saw SRH releasing Kane ahead of IPL 2023 auction.

Under Aiden Markram’s captaincy, SRH lacked the tenacity and winning mentality in IPL 2023 season where they hit a new low – finishing at the bottom of the points table. SRH might be planning for alternatives in case Markram is not in plans to skipper the team.

Pat Cummins: SRH splashed a truckload of cash to rope in Australian skipper Pat Cummins at the IPL 2024 auction for INR 20.50 crore – a deal that saw Cummins become the second-most expensive player in IPL history and the most expensive signing in SRH’s history.
