IPL 2024: Shah Rukh Khan offered Blank Cheque to Gautam Gambhir to join KKR?

Knight Riders have reunited with their captain fantastic Gautam Gambhir, this time as a mentor.

Gambhir is by far the greatest captain in KKR’s history, who led the team to their two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. The former India player took over the reins from Sourav Ganguly back in 2011 and won the IPL twice with KKR in his seven-year stint at the franchise.

Gambhir spent the last two seasons as the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants, but he has switched his base ahead of IPL 2024. KKR have failed to qualify for the playoffs in the previous two seasons of IPL, and co-owner Shah Rukh Khan decided to bring Gambhir into the think tank to drive the team.

Shah Rukh Khan offered Gautam Gambhir a Blank Cheque?

Under Gambhir’s mentorship, LSG qualified for consecutive Playoffs in the last two years and Shah Rukh Khan wanted the former India batter in the KKR setup. According to reports, Shah Rukh Khan offered a blank cheque to Gautam Gambhir for him to join the Knight Riders.

It is unknown whether Gambhir accepted the cheque, but the massive relief for KKR fans is that Gambhir will be in the Kolkata dugout this year. It was an emotional return for him, who made a heartwarming post on social media.

“This is my air, these are my people, this is where I stand,” Gambhir wrote on X after his return to KKR.

The Knight Riders will be playing their first match of the IPL 2024 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
