IPL 2024: Ravindra Jadeja to receive standing ovation from Chennai fans during CSK-GT clash

Ravindra Jadeja is set to receive a standing ovation from the home fans during the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday (Mar 26).

The two rivals will meet in a repeat of last season’s final where CSK beat GT on the final ball of an extended final. To pay tribute to Jadeja’s services over the years, fans will pay a standing ovation at 7:38 pm at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Fans to give standing ovation

Jadeja, who first joined CSK in 2012 has been a loyal player to the franchise and only spent time away when they were banned for two years. Since Jadeja wears kit number eight for CSK, the fans have reportedly decided to pay the standing ovation in the eighth minute of the match at 7:38 pm at the iconic A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Over the years in 174 matches for the five-time IPL champions, he has scored 3749 runs at an average of 27.67 while scalping 152 wickets.

Jadeja hit the winning runs last time CSK and GT crossed paths, which was the final of the IPL 2023. With 10 runs needed on the final two balls, it was Jadeja who fired home his team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Not only has he been a good bowler and batter, but he has also contributed to the side’s winning momentum on the field.

Jadeja’s poor IPL 2022

He was given the captaincy of the CSK side on the eve of the IPL 2022, however, poor form leading the side and injury saw his season being curtailed. He had to relinquish the captaincy to MS Dhoni in the midway point of the season and there were talks of him being out of the side. However, the IPL 2023 saw a fresh Jadeja who helped the side clinch their fifth title. Only Dwayne Bravo has scalped more wickets for the side in the history of the IPL.
