IPL 2024: Here’s why Ishan Kishan and other MI players don Superman attire at Mumbai Airport

The Mumbai Indians’ (MI) social media page recently unveiled a delightful video showcasing Ishan Kishan, the team’s wicketkeeper, donning a comical Superman outfit. However, he wasn’t the sole participant in this amusing spectacle! Three other players, namely Kumar Kartikeya, Shams Mulani and Nuwan Thushara, joined in the fun by sporting identical outfits, doubling the entertainment factor.

Mumbai Indian’s unique response

In the aftermath of their defeat against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kishan, Kartikeya and two other players were held accountable for their tardiness, having arrived late for crucial team meetings. This breach of punctuality resulted in disciplinary measures, with the players being tasked to don superheroes costumes and accompany the team on flights. The MI’s social media team seized the opportunity to share a lighthearted video of the incident, injecting humor into the situation and engaging their followers with playful content.

MI’s disappointing start to IPL 2024

In the wake of their loss to Rajasthan, the MI find themselves at the IPL table’s cellar, yet to notch a single victory this season. This lackluster showing is particularly disappointing given the caliber of talent on their roster. Despite the anticipation surrounding their first home game at Wankhede Stadium, the MI faltered against the Rajasthan, much to the chagrin of the packed stadium.

Fans discontent and upcoming challenges

The discontent among the crowd was palpable, with jeers directed at MI captain Hardik Pandya right from the toss. Sanjay Manjrekar called for improved fan conduct, but the booing persisted unabated, even as Rohit Sharma attempted to diffuse the tension. Looking ahead, MI will confront their next three challenges at Wankhede Stadium, clashing with Delhi Capitals (DC) before squaring off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Ishan Kishan’s BCCI central contract snub

As far as Kishan is concerned, it’s noteworthy that he was overlooked for central contracts by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in recent times. The left-hander had attributed mental fatigue as the reason for his unavailability during the South Africa series and subsequent home Tests against England. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah emphasized the importance of players participating in domestic games during breaks from national duties. Nevertheless, despite this advice, Kishan chose to train with the MI camp in preparation for the IPL 2024, which caught the attention of the BCCI.
