IPL 2024: ‘Confident’ Rishabh Pant rekindles love for game after horror accident

India’s star wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, admitted that his love for cricket had gone up while undergoing intense rehabilitation, after he was involved in a car crash back in December 2022.

The comeback man mentioned that he felt really confident while entering the cricket ground and soaking in its energy. Pant was declared fit by the BCCI’s medical team to participate in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Delhi Capitals.

The BCCI released the 2nd part of Pant’s rehabilitation journey, titled ‘The Greatest Comeback Story’ on March 16, Saturday.

The video was shared on ‘X’ with the caption,”In Part 2 of the #MiracleMan, we bring you insights from Rishabh Pant’s road to recovery, where determination and perseverance ultimately triumph. From intense rehabilitation sessions, training regime, and nutrition – the coaches at the National Cricket Academy take us deeper into this inspiring journey.”

In the video, Pant talked about his love for the game and how it only increased more than ever before.

“I feel really confident getting back on the field, and it’s been amazing as I feel so happy when I go to the ground. Each and every day I think that the love for cricket has gone up rather than going down, I would say. I love cricket more now. But I used to love it more than anything before also, but I think there has been an increase in that.

“When I enter the field, I feel the energy of the ground and just love being on the field, man, that’s the best part,” Pant said in the video.

Pant also talked about the great support by the BCCI and the NCA staff on his journey to recovery after undergoing surgery on 3 ligaments of his right knee.

“Great support from BCCI all over. Whatever I needed, they tried to give me, and they gave their best, and I am thankful for that, the support that I got all over. Really appreciate it. In such a long injury, frustration keeps on coming. It’s very normal. At that time, NCA people have been very supportive.

“I asked them, instead of staying in a hotel, could I stay in a house because I used to wake up late. Because of the hospital, my schedule had changed. I used to wake up late, and it took me time to adjust to it. They were very welcoming that we would do the session in the 2nd half. All these small things matter in a bigger picture,” Pant added.

Pant has been running hard yards in the nets and after 14 months post his accident, the 26-year-old will be back to cricketing action.

The Capitals will be playing their tournament opener against Punjab Kings at the newly built Mullanpur Stadium.
