IPL 2024: Big-money signing Cameron Green joins RCB camp ahead of season

Royal Challengers Banglore’s big-money buy Cameron Green has joined the team camp ahead of the IPL 2024 season on March 17.

Green was joined by the IPL 2024 auction buy Lockie Ferguson at the camp on Sunday as both men seemed to be in high spirits after reaching the base in Bengaluru.

The Trans-Tasman rivals did have some banter as Ferguson called himself ‘Flash’ while Green compared himself to the famous DC character, The Green Lantern. However, the New Zealand pacer asked him to quickly change it when Green decided to compare himself to the Hulk.

How important will Green be for RCB?

RCB decided to rope in Green in a trade with Mumbai Indians, who were looking to seal a deal for Hardik Pamdya at the same time. The Aussie all-rounder joined RCB for 17.5 crores, the price MI paid to get him in the IPL 2023 auction.

In his first season in the IPL, Green did make a good impact with the bat and scored 452 runs in the campaign from 16 matches. This included a memorable 100 against Sunrisers Hyderbad at the Wankhede stadium.

Green would also go on to pick up 6 wickets during the tournament as MI was part of the playoffs. The all-rounder is expected to play in the top-order for RCB this season, possibly in the No.3 slot.

The move was hailed by RCB’s Director of Cricket Mo Bobat as a fantastic move.

“We have got a strong core of retaining players, and we have got a very powerful top order. Part of the decision-making that we had around our player release decisions was to try and strengthen the middle order and bringing Cameron Green was a fantastic move,” Mo Babat said during RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet.

Ferguson was released by KKR ahead of the IPL 2024 auction and was brought in by RCB for his base price of 2 crores. The New Zealand pacer will be taking part in his 7th season in the IPL.
