IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer’s spot in danger for third Test, KL Rahul likely to return

IND vs ENG: Out-of-form Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer face the threat of getting dropped in the third Test match against England which starts in Rajkot from February 15.

KL Rahul, who suffered a quadriceps injury during the second Test, is getting better every passing day and is likely to recover on time for the third Test. He is very likely to replace one between Gill and Iyer.

Virat Kohli made himself available for the first two Test matches to be with his pregnant wife Anushka Sharma. In case Kohli also returns, both the players might get dropped.

Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, who have been struggling for big runs in red ball format, will have to buckle up and score some runs when their turn to bat comes in India’s second innings at Visakhapatnam. They were dismissed for 34 and 27 runs respectively in the first innings.

Gill last registered a 50-plus score 12 innings ago in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia in March 2023. Iyer also scored his last fifty 12 innings ago.

Rajat Patidar made his debut in the second Test and looked good during his 72-ball stay for 32 runs. In-form Sarfaraz Khan is also waiting for his turn.

The Indian batting unit is under scrutiny after India lost the first Test in Hyderabad despite taking a 190-run lead. Chasing 231, India were bundled out for 202.
