Hanuma Vihari ‘sad and disappointed’ over Test team snub: ‘No one has spoken to me recently’

Hanuma Vihari last played for India in July 2022. Despite having chipped in with some key contributions to the Indian team in his 16-Test career, the Andhra batter hasn’t got the backing and the long rope that some of the others have managed to get.

The 30-year-old conceded that he is disappointed about not being in the Test scheme of things, but stressed he is working hard to try and get his place back in the senior national team.

Hanuma Vihari has been in good form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, scoring 365 runs in 7 innings. The Andhra batter began the season with a fifty against Bengal and followed it up with a fifty against Andhra. He then hit a defining 183 against Chattisgarh.

Hanuma Vihari has had to do multiple jobs for the senior national team in his nascent career as a Test cricketer. He has batted in 5 different positions, with 9 matches at No. 6 and 3 each at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 7. The Test specialist was preferred predominantly for overseas Tests before he was dropped in 2022 due to poor form.

“I do feel sad and disappointed that I am not in the Test team, but everyone goes through ups and downs, and my job now is to score runs in the Ranji Trophy.
