Former Kolkata Knight Riders star Yusuf Pathan has joined politics, and he is set to be Trinamool Congress candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election in 2024.
Trinamool Congress released their candidates list for the upcoming General Election and the former India cricketer has been enlisted, much to the surprise of many.
Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee called for a ‘Janagarjan Sabha’ (Roar of People Assembly) in Kolkata on Sunday (March 10), and Yusuf Pathan’s name has been confirmed as a candidate.
The 41-year-old will be contesting from the Behrampore constituency, which has been a stronghold of the Indian National Congress (INC).
INC Bengal supremo Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury won the Berhampore sit in the General Election 2019, which was one among Congress’ two seats.
Yusuf Pathan is popular in Bengal for his stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders, with whom he won two IPL trophies. The hard-hitting batter was popular for his six-hitting abilities, and Trinamool Congress would be expecting another clean strike from him in the elections.
