Chelsea’s Mauricio Pochettino warns Mykhaylo Mudryk despite goal vs Leeds

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino urged Mykhaylo Mudryk to utilise his talents for the collective good of the team. These comments from the Argentine came after Mudryk scored a crucial goal in his side’s FA Cup win over Leeds United.

Mudryk’s form in his new Chelsea colours has not seen the best of starts since he arrived at the West London club in 2023 for a whopping 88.5 million pounds. Despite being on top of the hype train for his performance at his former side Shakhtar Donetsk, Mudryk has only managed 3 goals and 4 assists in his 34 Premier League appearances so far.

However, on Thursday, February 29, the 23-year-old winger from Ukraine scored a crucial goal in his side’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Leeds United. Still recovering from their Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool, the Leeds game became a must-win clash for Pochettino’s side to keep their hopes alive for silverware in what has been a forgetful 2023-2024 campaign so far. Mudryk scored the second goal in Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Leeds, which secured their place in the quarter-finals of the competition againstLeicester City.

Despite scoring the goal, Pochettino, in his post-match comments, issued a warning to Mudryk and other youngsters of the Chelsea squad to focus on playing a collective game.

“Mudryk has amazing talent. But he needs to understand that football is a collective sport. You put your talent in the service of the team. For that, you need time,” Pochettino said.

Pochettino went on to stress the importance of young players understanding the need to play with their talent for the greater good of the team.
