Babar Azam Loses Cool After Alleged ‘Zimbabar’ Chants, Threatens To Throw Water Bottle In Viral Video

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam who normally maintains his composure on the cricket field, found himself at the center of attention after a video went viral during a recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) match.

Babar, who is currently leading Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing season of the T20 League, faced a rare moment of losing his cool after being subjected to taunts from the audience.

In a video circulating on social media, the Peshawar Zalmi captain was caught getting irritated and angered by spectators chanting ‘Zimababar’. However, many social media users also claimed that the chants may have been edited. Nonetheless, the 29-year-old even went to the extent of threatening to throw his water bottle towards the spectators as the mocking continued from the stands.

Despite the off-field distraction, Azam has been in exceptional form with the bat in the ongoing PSL 2024 season. In three games, he has amassed 171 runs at an impressive average of 57, striking at a rate of 143.70. With a couple of fifties under his belt, he currently ranks as the second-highest run-scorer in the league.

However, Azam’s individual brilliance has not translated into team success for Peshawar Zalmi, who have managed just one win out of three matches. Placed second-last on the tally with two points, Zalmi will look to rally behind their captain and bounce back in the remaining fixtures to strengthen their bid for knockout qualification. With seven more games to go, Azam and his team have ample opportunity to turn their fortunes around and make a strong push for playoff contention.
