Ashwin overtakes Bumrah as number one ranked Test bowler, Rohit Sharma jumps five places to sixth

Ravichandran Ashwin has toppled Jasprit Bumrah as the number ranked Test bowler in the latest ICC rankings. India captain Rohit Sharma jumped five places to sixth in the latest Test rankings for batters.

Ashwin picked a five-wicket haul in the second innings of his 100th Test appearance which came against England in Dharamsala as India won by an innings and 64 runs and sealed the series 4-1.

 

The 37-year-old picked two wickets in the first innings of the fifth Test. The Tamil Nadu spinner finished as the highest wicket-taker in the 5-Test series, taking 26 wickets at an average of 24.81. Ashwin held the number one rank earlier this year as well.

This is the sixth time that Ashwin, the ninth bowler to take 500 Test wickets, has claimed the top spot in the Test bowlers’ rankings, with his first stint dating back to December 2015.

Bumrah, who was rested from the fourth Test in Ranchi, dropped to second place where he is tied with pacer Josh Hazlewood now. The Australian pacer jumped two places to second following his six scalps in the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch.

Further, Kuldeep Yadav earns a new career-high rating and jumps 15 places to 16th overall on the latest Test rankings for bowlers following his seven wickets and Player of the Match heroics against England. New Zealand pacer Matt Henry moved six spots to 12th, breaching the 700-point mark for the first time in his career.

Rohit Sharma jumps to 6th spot in ICC Test Rankings for batters

Further, Rohit Sharma has jumped five places to sixth in the latest Test rankings for batters. The India captain scored 103 runs in his only innings of the Dharamsala Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal moved to the eighth spot, while Shubam Gill jumped 11 spots to the 20th position. Gill scored 110 runs in India’s only innings at Dharamsala. Virat Kohli has dropped a place to ninth.

Jaiswal has 740 rating points as per the latest update. Only Don Bradman (752) and Mike Hussey (741) had more rating points than the 22-year-old after nine Test matches.

ICC Test Rankings For All-rounders: Jadeja and Ashwin on top

India spinner Ravindra Jadeja remains well out in front of second-placed Ashwin on the updated list for Test all-rounders, with Australia skipper Pat Cummins (up two places to eighth) and Henry (up six spots to 11th) among the big movers.
