Dhoni to share Chennai captaincy in IPL 2024? Rayudu provides interesting take

Ambati Rayudu has given an interesting take that MS Dhoni could share the captaincy with another player, especially if it is his final season in the IPL.

Many pundits and fans feel that the 2024 edition of the IPL could be the final one for Dhoni before he hangs up his gloves. Speaking on the Star Sports ‘Press Room’, Rayudu felt that with the Impact Player Rule in full swing, Dhoni could take a back seat and promote someone to captain the side in the middle.

Rayudu feels 2024 could be a year of transition for CSK, especially if it’s his final season. The former CSK batter felt that if Dhoni does decide to play a few more seasons, then he would continue as the skipper of the side.

“With the impact player rule, he can take a back seat and promote someone to captain their side in the middle. So this year might be a transition year for CSK if it’s his last year, if he decides to play for a few more years, I think he would be the captain. I would personally like him to see as a captain.”

Dhoni will play the full IPL 2024 season even if he is 10 percent fit: Rayudu

Rayudu also said that if Dhoni has decided to play this season, he would make sure to take part in all of the matches even if he isn’t fully fit. The former CSK player pointed out to how Dhoni played the last season of the IPL while nursing a knee injury.

“I think if he has decided to play this season and if he is even 10% fit, he will definitely play the full season and knowing him, injury will not keep him out of the game and he has played through many injuries. Even during last season he was playing with a very bad knee injury, so I don’t think anything will stop him from playing this full season,” said Rayudu.

Dhoni will be in action during the season opener as CSK will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk on March 22.
