The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 has reached the climax stage as teams look to seal their spots for the Playoffs, which is scheduled to take place this week at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi after the league stage action ends on March 13.
As a five-team league, only the top three progress to the playoffs and will play their respective fixtures based on where they finish in the WPL 2024 points table. Two matches will be played in the playoff stages – Eliminator and then the all important final.
The first placed team will earn a direct entry into the final, while the second and third placed teams will battle in the lone eliminator to book their spots for the summit clash.
The WPL 2024 is a 5-team tournament in which each team will play the remaining four teams in double round-robin matches to decide who progress to the playoff stages.
A team will play a total of eight matches in the league stage with the Net Run Rate (NRR) also playing a crucial role in deciding the final four if teams are level on points.
Which three teams have qualified for the WPL 2024 Playoffs?
Last year’s finalists – runners up Delhi Capitals (10 points from 7 matches) and champion Mumbai Indians (10 points from 7 matches) have booked their spots in the playoffs, but are yet to determine who will finish first as both teams have a game in hand.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (6 points from 7 matches) are currently in third based on better NRR, and are well-placed to qualify for the eliminator, but they still may face a challenge from UP Warriorz (6 points from 8 matches) and Gujarat Giants (4 points from 7 matches).
RCB will play MI in their final league stage match on Tuesday (March 12), while GG will face DC on Wednesday (March 13) in this season’s final league phase game. Both matches will have an important baring on who tops the table and who finishes in the third spot.
