Rishabh Pant declared fit by NCA as wicketkeeper-batter for IPL 2024, Shami and Prasidh Krishna ruled out

Rishabh Pant has been declared fit as a wicketkeeper-batter for Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of IPL 2024. Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna have been ruled out of IPL 17.

“After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” BCCI said in a statement.

The BCCI release on Tuesday, March 12 revealed that Prasidh Krishan underwent surgery for his left proximal quadriceps tendon in February, and will be spending time at the NCA in Bengaluru. Pradish was retained by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Rs 10 crore.

“The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.”

Shami has also been ruled out of the IPL 2024 due to his heel injury. He hasn’t played any form of cricket since the 2023 World Cup final between India and Australia in November.

“The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.”

Earlier, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting and Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly had hinted that Rishabh Pant would play for the franchise as captain in the IPL 2024. David Warner led Delhi last year in the absence of Pant.

However, there were doubts if Pant would play as a wicketkeeper-batter. Even though, NCA has declared him fit as a wicketkeeper-batter, Pant and DC management might field someone else to discharge the responsibility with the gloves.

Delhi Capitals will play their first match against Punjab Kings in Chandigarh on Saturday, March 23.
