Shane Watson Approached By Pakistan Cricket Board For Head Coach Role Of Men’s Team: Report

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reportedly approached the former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson for the head coach role of the men’s team.

The men’s senior side currently is without a coach and the board wants to find a perfect candidate ahead of their white-ball assignment against New Zealand with Watson among the prime contenders.

PCB are keen to find someone to take up the role on a permanent basis rather than a temporary one, as was the case with Mohammad Hafeez who was appointed for tours of Australia and New Zealand in December and January.

Watson is currently in Pakistan serving as the coach of the Quetta Gladiators in the PSL this year.

He played an instrumental role in the massive turnaround for the franchise as they are set to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in five years.

While Watson is not the only one the PCB are looking at – former West Indies captain Daren Sammy is another desired candidate.

As per a report in the ESPNCricinfo despite getting approached for the role, it is not guaranteed Watson will accept it even if an offer comes his way.

Watson, who lives with his family in Sydney, already has an immensely busy schedule in 2024.

Watson is the coach of the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket and has commentary commitments with Star Sports in ICC events as well as the Indian Premier League.
