U-15. U-20 National Wrestling Championships postponed; state bodies rue short notice

The Under-15 and Under-20 National Wrestling Championships, which was expected to take place this year, has been rescheduled after some state associations expressed their concern about the announcement of the competitions at a short notice.

They cited challenges including insufficient time for conducting team selection trials and difficulties in arranging necessities such as travel and equipment.

After evaluating the legitimate appeal from state associations, the ad hoc committee in charge of the Wrestling Federation of India determined their next steps.

The Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education in Gwalior was set to host the U-20 and U-15 National Wrestling Championships from February 11 to 17, encompassing women’s and men’s freestyle, along with Greco-Roman categories.

Bhupender Singh Bajwa, head of the ad hoc committee at WFI, stated that multiple state wrestling associations have asked for a postponement of the national wrestlingchampionships.

“The ad hoc committee acknowledges the validity of these concerns and has therefore chosen to postpone the U20 and U15 National Wrestling Championships, originally planned to take place in Gwalior from February 11 to 17, 2024”, said Bajwa

He also stated that once a decision is reached, information regarding any changes to the schedule or location for hosting the U20 and U15 Free Style, Greco Roman Style, and Women National Wrestling Championships will be communicated accordingly.
