Reports: Babar Azam likely to be re-appointed as Pakistan captain under Syed Mohsin Naqvi’s reign

Star Pakistan batter Babar Azam is likely to be re-appointed as the captain of the side after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi as their new chairman.

Notably, Babar stepped down from the captaincy of all three formats after Pakistan’s dismal show in the ODI World Cup 2023 where they failed to qualify for the semi-finals finishing on the fifth spot with four wins from nine matches.

The then PCB Chairman, Zaka Ashraf urged him to continue leading the side in Tests. However, the 29-year-old didn’t show any interest to continue leading the team. However, in a recent development according to Pakistan journalist Qadir Khawaja, he’s likely to be re-appointed as the captain of the side.

Notably, after Babar stepped down PCB appointed Shan Masood as the Test skipper while Shaheen Afridi was given the responsibility of leading the T20I side. However, a new ODI captain hasn’t been named yet.

Under the new leadership, Pakistan’s struggles have continued as they were once again whitewashed in Australia for the sixth consecutive time losing their 17 consecutive Tests down under. Furthermore, they lost a five-match T20I series against New Zealand by 1-4 under Afridi’s captaincy.
