Mayank Yadav for T20 World Cup 2024 and Border-Gavaskar series? Varun Aaron shares his verdict

Former India pacer Varun Aaron has shared his opinions on whether Mayank Yadav will be a good fit for ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023-24. There are no doubts that Mayank Yadav has become a fortnight sensation in IPL 2024 after his first two games.

Mayank Yadav has attracted a lot of eyeballs with his spectacular show for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024. He captured 3-wicket hauls against Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru to help LSG defend their total. He also won Player of the Match in both games.

Notably, Yadav has a special ability to bowl at 150+ speeds consistently. The right-arm pacer scared batters with his lethal pace attack and overpowered them in both games. His ability can be handy in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and the India vs Australia series later this year.

Mayank Yadav has to show consistency for BGT, feels Varun Aaron

Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, former cricketer-turned-commentator Varun Aaron shared his verdict on Mayank Yadav featuring in the T20 World Cup 2024 and Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Aaron feels Yadav has to come up with more brilliant bowling shows to get a place in BGT.

“The kind of work he’s put in in the last two games that does bring a lot of eyeballs. But he’d have to obviously repeat it over a period of time then again when you’re talking about the Border-Gavaskar series. That’s a test series. That’s a whole different skill set and a whole different workload,” he said.

However, Varun Aaron believes Yadav can make it to the T20I World Cup squad if he gives more amazing performances in IPL 2024.

“The T20 World Cup. I’m sure he’s going to be a contender if he backs it up with a few more performances because he is bowling absolute gas”, he further added.

Mitchell McClenaghan feels Mayank Yadav can make it to the T20 WC squad

Former New Zealand player Mitchell McClenaghan was also part of the conversation. He feels Indian selectors would look at Mayank Yadav for the T20 World Cup if he continues his form throughout IPL 2024.

“If his form continues throughout this tournament. The World Cup starts three days after the IPL tournament. And I think you’d be crazy not to look at players that are in form going into that tournament”, the former Kiwi pacer said.

LSG has 2 wins in 3 games

Meanwhile, with 6 wickets in just 2 games in IPL 2024 at 5+ economy, Yadav has moved to the second spot in the list of top wicket-takers in IPL 2024. He will next play against Gujarat Titans.

The Lucknow Super Giants vs Gujarat Titans game takes place on Sunday, April 7 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. With 2 wins and 1 defeat in IPL 2024, LSG has 4 points and grabs the 4th spot in the points table.

LSG crushed Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru with impeccable spells by Yadav. Earlier, LSG lost to Rajasthan Royals by 20 runs in their first match. However, Yadav was not part of the match.
