Pathirana Injury Update: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is fit and has recovered from his hamstring injury, his manager Amila Kalugalage has revealed.

He has also slammed ESPNcricinfo for reporting that Matheesha Pathirana would miss initial stages of IPL 2024.

The 21-year-old, who picked 19 wickets for CSK last year, sustained the injury during the second T20I against Bangladesh in Sylhet on March 6. Pathirana was unable to finish his spell.

 

“The answer to “Where’s Pathirana” He is fit and ready to throw Thunder balls. Be ready. Finally a together with the Legend,” Matheesha Pathirana’s manager Amila Kalugalage wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The manager also slammed the ESPNcricinfo report which suggested that Matheesha Pathirana would be unavailable for at least two weeks. It added that he was undergoing rehab at the high performance centre in Colombo.

“Hello @ESPNcricinfo kindly verify before publishing. Don’t know who gave you this wrong information,” Pathirana’s manager wrote on X.

Going by the bold X posts by his manager, Matheesha Pathirana is expected to soon get a clearance from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and join the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK squad in India.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings lock horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024 opener on Friday, March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai.

The post from Matheesha Pathirana’s manager was made on Friday morning. Therefore, the Sri Lanka slinger is set to miss the match against RCB, but could be available for CSK’s second match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday, March 26. He should surely be available for the side’s third match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 31.

CSK will also be without their star opener Devon Conway in the initial stages of the IPL 2024. The southpaw batter has been sidelined until May with a thumb injury.

MS Dhoni handed over CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad on the eve of the RCB vs CSK IPL 2024 opener. The first match will begin from 8:00 PM IST after a glittering opening ceremony.
