Pat Cummins, the second-most costliest player in the history of IPL and the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024, has said that he would want the 2016 champions to be aggressive from the start of the tournament which starts from Friday, March 22.
The Australian captain was bought by SRH for Rs 20.50 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. He has taken over the captaincy from South Africa’s Aiden Markram. Cummins led Australia to World Test Championship (WTC) victory in 2023, and the ODI World Cup in 2023.
The pacer has expressed the desire of wanting his team to be aggressive from the very beginning. He also described getting close to the players he wasn’t familiar with as the key feature of his leadership style.
“Well, I picked the singlet, which is not normally me, but it was the only shirt I found. The rest are packed away. So yeah, maybe next time I’ll be wearing sleeves, but orange looks great. Uniforms. Awesome,” Cummins said in a video posted by SRH.
“I mean, the plans are you know, I work really closely with the guys that I don’t know too well. Get to know them. Get to know what they need from me out in the middle. And then, you know, work with coaches and what they want to see out of me as well as a player.
“So, a bit of planning to go and then just wanna get off to a really good start. T20s are hard. Kolkata’s a good team, but I think just wanna see a really aggressive, start to the season,” he added.
Cummins also reflected on the great mix of experienced and young talents in the SRH squad. He talked about former SRH captains Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Markram, before praising youngsters Abhishek Sharma and Umran Malik.
“I think we’ve got a great mix. We’ve got a couple more experienced guys like Bhuvi. Obviously Aiden Markram captain last year. But we’ve got some exciting young talent. I’m super excited to see guys like Abhishek, Umran Malik, these kind of guys I’ve only seen a little bit of but super excited, so I think fans should be pretty pumped for the season ahead,” said Cummins.
