IPL 2024: Relief for CSK, Mustafizur Rahman leaves for Chennai after injury scare

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) must have heaved a sigh of relief after their premier fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman left for India to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

On Tuesday morning before leaving for Chennai, Mustafizur dropped a post on his official ‘X’ account where he was seen sitting with his luggage at the airport.

Mustafizur wrote, “Excited and looking forward to my new assignment. Heading to Chennai for IPL 2024. Keep me in your prayers so that I can deliver my best.”

On Monday, Mustafizur suffered an injury scare during Bangladesh’s third and final ODI against Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

The 29-year-old had to be carried off the park on a stretcher after he reportedly complained of cramps all around his body. The left-armer was seen in quite a bit of pain after the hot and humid conditions seemed to have taken a toll on him.

Mustafizur finished with figures of 9-0-39-2 after he accounted for the crucial scalps of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka. On the back of his spell, the Tigers bowled the visiting team out for 235 in 50 overs.

Thereafter, Bangladesh chased down the target with 58 balls to spare to win the match by 4 wickets. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s men also won the 3-match series 2-1.

CSK struggling with injuries

As far as CSK are concerned, they are grappling with injury concerns to a few of their key players. Left-hander Devon Conway is suffering from a thumb injury while Matheesha Pathirana tore his hamstring during the T20I series against Bangladesh.

The Super Kings bought Mustafizur at the auction at his base price of INR 2 crore in the auction that took place last year.

CSK’s first match in IPL 2024 is against the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22 in Chennai.
