IPL 2024 Matches Post April 7 To Take Place In UAE? BCCI Contemplates Shift In Venue Due To General Elections: Report

The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League can shift it’s base to United Arab Emirates from India in order to avoid the clash with General Elections 2024 which take place after every five years as per a report.

Notably, BCCI has already released the schedule for the matches till April 7.

“The Election Commission of India will announce the election schedule on Saturday at 3 pm. After that, the BCCI will decide whether IPL matches should be moved to Dubai. Currently, a few top BCCI officials are in Dubai to explore the possibility of organizing the second half of the IPL in Dubai,” a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

There are other reports in the media suggesting that some IPL teams have asked their players to submit their passports for avoiding any logistical nightmare at the last minute.

This has further fueled speculations a shift of venue outside India. The first half of the 2014 IPL was also held in the UAE due to general elections.

However, sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have maintained that the league will take place in India only.

The first leg of the IPL will start on March 22 with defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

There was speculation before the start of the event that the 2024 edition of the IPL could be moved out of India because of the general elections just like in previous elections.
